Identity
Identity Written Reflection
From each of the 3 ways that you interpreted the idea of identity, portraits and metaphors, which image was most successful? My image of Kris' bracelet was most successful, I love the contest of the photo and how clear it came out. Also the meaning of the photo is really captured.
Answer the following questions about that image:
Composition:
Do all the elements of the frame support the subject, or are there distractions that take away from the strength of the image? There are no distractions that take away from the strength of the image. I purposely made the background of the image black so there would be no distractions of shadows.
Which of the 9 compositional rules utilized in the photo? (rule of thirds, get close, framing, triangles, diagonals, leading lines, contrast, figure/ground, center the dominant eye, pattern and repetition, focal point, symmetry, bird’s eye view, worm’s eye view) The rule of thirds, focal point, center to the dominant eye, and get close.
Technical Aspects:
Shutter Speed or Depth of Field- how is either manipulated in the image? The Depth of Field is manipulated because the bracelet is in focus and the background is going out of focus
Are exposure, focus or blur manipulated? The focus was manipulated because of how sharp and focused the picture is on the bracelet and the contrast of the black blurred background.
Does use of color or lighting impact the photo?
The lighting is bouncing of the the cancer symbol on the bracelet and the red color is contrasting with the black background.
Post-processing/Editing-
What edits in photoshop enhance or change the photo's meaning?
I enhanced the contrast so the whole photo would be focused on the bracelet representing the symbol of cancer.
Narrative/Storytelling/Communication –
What is conveyed about the person in the image? The person had a cancer survivor as a family member is what is being conveyed. How is the “story” of the person conveyed? The story shows that the person went through an emotional time and the bracelet has a major impact to the person. What props, clothing, setting or facial expression or body language communicate the IDENTITY (personality, interests, gender, background, culture, or history) of the person in the portrait? The person is holding the bracelet with strength and integrity showing that he is strong going through this emotional impact in his life.
Emotional Impact –
What emotions captured in your portrait will cause the audience to respond? How is the emotional content conveyed? The emotions can relate to other people that had to go through cancer or had someone close to them that went through cancer be affected.
